When somebody close to you loses someone they love you can provide support by being there as part of a network of friends and family to help them grieve whilst also being there to provide practical help and guidance in their day to day life whilst they adjust and take in the news.

  1. Stay in touch with them on a regular basis and let them know you are thinking about them.
  2. Ask to see if there is anything you can do that will be helpful or supportive.
  3. Be there to listen to what it is they have to say.
  4. Thoughtful gestures can be a helpful way to support a friend or close relative.
  5. Highlight charities or support agencies who can offer extra hep if they are struggling.
  6. Grief can often take a long time so be patient and understanding.
  7. Everyone responds and reacts differently to grief. Avoid judgement and support someone to heal at their own pace.
  8. Assist helping with daily tasks and activities such as shopping or cooking or cooking a meal.
