Written by Gobinder Gill

THEORY: Mental toughness is important and integral for successful outcomes. Key characteristics of mental toughness relate to consistency, desire, focus, overcoming setbacks, resilience and concentration.

PRACTICE: Becoming mentally tough does not occur overnight. To become mentally tough one must experience a range of situations that are both positive and negative.

APPLICATION: Performers need to practice what they learn. Therefore, any skills that are taught must be practiced. Overtime individuals become mentally tough.

Skills that help to increase and enhance mental toughness include:

1) Positive Self-Talk

2) Goal Setting

3) Positive Self-Belief

4) Self-Confidence

5) Handling Pressure
